Wellness fact A long-awaited report from the National Research Council
has concluded that there is "no conclusive and consistent evidence"
that electromagnetic fields (EMFs) from power lines or household wiring
cause cancer, miscarriages, birth defects, or other health problems. The
panel of leading scientists, after reviewing hundreds of studies, did
find a "weak but statistically significant" link between power
lines and childhood leukemia, but said it was uncertain that the cause
was EMFs. Thus it called for more research into the subject. For the full
report, got to the NRC's
website. UC Berkeley Wellness Letter, February 1997
